Hard Rock Live stocks up on the laughs of cross-generational stage and screen star George Lopez

No stranger to the stage, movies, television or recording comedy albums for over four decades, George Lopez is a cross-generational star with a multi-cultural audience, who paved the way for a multitude of Latino comics by embracing and examining ethnicity.
His starring roles are too numerous to mention, right up to the most recent “Lopez vs Lopez” series featuring his actual daughter Mayan Lopez, though it’s never been at the expense of a popular stand-up career that keeps on packing the likes of the Hard Rock Live Northern Indiana.
Lopez’s third time there was definitely a charm amidst the casino and concert hall’s always star-studded line-up, which busted out with laugher when the headliner brought his down to earth observations and hilarious personal stories for around an hour, following longtime friend/fellow funny man Frazer Smith and Chicago’s DJ Oreo.
Rather than recycling previous material, the 64-year-old was fresh from the jump, riffing on an usually extreme wind/dust storm almost delaying attendees and visiting The Jacksons’ hallowed Gary home not too far down the road.
Lopez quickly dug further into his witty and wild sides, touching on immigration, trick or treating on acid, imitating Mexican and Black accents, wondering why white people don’t get mad at Cracker Barrel’s name, plus losing 65 pounds and finally being able to see a certain body part.
If there was one thread to tie all the otherwise unrelated themes together, it was how much the world changed since growing up in the old school compared to now, such as the widespread increase of food allergies, the sometimes extreme emphasis put on sports safety and how common it used to be for a parent to hit a misbehaving child in public.
On that note, he had fans howling after recalling the Sunday his grandma walloped him in church due to writing out a hundred dollar donation on an envelope, then licking and submitting it without actually inserting the money.
In spite of the subject’s anticlimactic nature, the show reached an comical apex surrounding the relationship between aging and sex, or lack thereof, which found the Hard Rock leaping to its feet and Lopez expressing genuine appreciation for a lifetime of support.
