Genesee Theatre gets “Lost In Love” over Australian duo Air Supply’s 50th anniversary bash

Australia’s soft pop superstars Air Supply, comprised of lead singer Russell Hitchcock and guitarist/vocalist Graham Russell, have supposedly never had a single argument, which surely contributed to staying together for a half a century.

The fact that they’ve crafted an extensive body of truly timeless love songs and sold 100 million records in the process ranks right up there as another reason, prompting a rapid sell out at the restored and adored Genesee Theatre.

Air SupplyBacked by a band and string section, the main members came across like a well-oiled machine, just as committed to the material now as they were during the 1970s and ‘80s.

The symphonic “Sweet Dreams” was a dramatic way to start, followed by the breezy “Even The Nights Are Better,” the ballad “Just As I Am” and the serenade “Every Woman In The World.”

Hitchcock and Russell’s rich harmonies remained across the likes of “Here I Am,” “Chances” and “Goodbye,” while the latter even presented a personally-penned poem entitled “Invisible.”

He also debuted “Can We Say I Do?” off a new Air Supply album due for release in May, prior to the pair joining forces for “Two Less Lonely People In The World” and “The One That You Love.”

Other classics included the acoustically-framed “Lost In Love” and the epically orchestrated “Making Love Out Nothing At All,” in addition to their signature stamp on “Without You” alongside versions by Badfinger, Harry Nilsson and Mariah Carey.

Air SupplyAfter nearly two hours, Air Supply was “All Out Of Love,” but left absolutely every ounce of it with the Genesee, resulting in a 50th anniversary they’ll never forget, plus no foreseeable end to this relaxing and romantic streak.
