The Revivalists, Sylvan Esso, Suki Waterhouse and the many rainy delights of Lollapalooza

With Lollapalooza heading into the official weekend portion of the festivities, fans braved some rain and flocked even earlier to Grant Park in hopes of discovering the latest and greatest, while posting up to catch electronic game-changers Odessa, the immensely popular K-pop troupe Tomorrow x Together and hip-hop headliner Pusha T.

The Revivalists are already there in jam band circles, though appreciators and curious onlookers alike had the opportunity to experience the New Orleans group’s gumbo of roots and alternative rock, plus generally optimistic lyrics so catchy, they could be repeated upon initial impact.

The Revivalists“Wish I Knew You” was one of several sunny selections everyone seemed to know and was a further testament to crowd jumper David Shaw and the band’s consistent improvisational chemistry.

Vocalist Amelia Meath and producer Nick Sanborn, otherwise collectively known as Sylvan Esso, brought a sugar rush of reflections within the framework of electronic-infused indie pop, swapping commercial considerations for colorful and beloved quirkiness.

English singer/songwriter/actress and model Suki Waterhouse was charming and classy over a retro pop backdrop that’s already making major waves in America, but if the reaction to this particularly magnetic performance was any indication, is destined for additional global prominence.

Electronic duo The Knocks took a futuristic funk approach to the dance floor, dropping bits of nu-disco, pulsating pop and all-around energy to really get the vibes bursting and sweat flowing in the heat of the misty day.

The RevivalistsIt may have been Ivan Cornejo’s first ever festival, but the 19-year-old Regional Mexican singer/songwriter more than rose to the occasion via a flavorful set peppered with alternative rock influences.

Relative newcomers Thee Sacred Souls provided a massive wall of eclectic roots and vintage sounds, constantly defying categorization, yet always captivating throughout each spontaneous turn.

“Another Love” troubadour Tom Odell has steadily gained traction in the U.K. during the last decade and continues to strike a chord on these shores, thanks to a timeless songwriting style and the ability to transcend generations.

Saturday afternoon was also an ideal chance for families to experience the enormous but easily navigable event together, especially when the special guest collective of Collaboraction’s The Light stopped by Kidzapalooza, advocating for social change through singing, songwriting, dancing and poetry, ensuring there really is an outlet for absolutely everyone to be entertained and learn a little something along the way.
