Quantity often outweighs quality when it comes to New Year’s Eve concert choices, but for anyone around the Chicago area, the Hard Rock Live Northern Indiana was hands down the top spot to ring in 2026.

Rather than overcharging for cover bands or some random DJ, the venue inside the casino featured a ticketed headlining performance by double Grammy Award-winner Shaggy, complete with an open bar and free hot dogs, while the Hard Rock Cafe hosted a totally free show by alternative rock chart-toppers Lit and the Council Oak Bar did the same for the spins of Nasty Boy Noel.

ShaggyOther than separately rising to recognition throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the two main marquee acts probably don’t cross paths very often, yet they simultaneously brought together full houses of music lovers ready to raise a toast to fresh beginnings.

Of course, the man born Orville Richard Burrell, better known all the world over as Shaggy, is no stranger to bringing a party no matter where he goes, so it was only natural to have the frequent hitmaker headline the festivities.

The Jamaican singer/songwriter delivered his signature reggae rhythms, storming through such originals as “Boombastic,” “Oh Carolina,” “Angel” and “Luv Me Luv Me,” while applying a similar spirit to covers of Eddy Grant’s “Electric Avenue” and Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine.”

Meanwhile, Lit leapt out of the post-grunge era for a plethora of platinum-certified SoCal power punk, pulling liberally from its landmark “A Place In The Sun” project and several surrounding major label albums.

“Zip-Lock,” “Lipstick And Bruises” and “Miserable” were a few of the ferocious examples of how the mostly original line-up endured for at least a couple decades at this point, while fueling a future promising new material.

Once the clock neared midnight, all three stages had a countdown and ballon drop, followed by more tunes, including Shaggy’s smash “It Wasn’t Me,” plus Lit’s massive “My Own Worst Enemy” to make sure the Hard Rock’s next notes got off to just as strong of a start as the prior ones.Shaggy
