Scan album credits as iconic as The Beatles’ “Abbey Road” to Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side Of The Moon” and Alan Parsons is the sound engineer extraordinaire, kicking off an iconic career both behind the scenes and as an artist himself.

Alongside late singer/pianist Eric Woolfson, he of course led The Alan Parsons Project, the progressive meets symphonic pop/rock partnership responsible for such platinum-plus collections as “I Robot,” “The Turn Of A Friendly Card” and “Eye In The Sky” throughout the 1970s and ‘80s.

Alan ParsonsUnder his own name, the Grammy Award-winner kept right on recording from the ‘90s through today, including the latest epic “From The New World,” all of which collectively shaped the set list for “The Show Must Go On” Tour at the restored and renowned Genesee Theatre in Waukegan.

For 90 minutes, the slightly renamed Alan Parsons Live Project delivered on its promise to feature five decades’ worth of hits and obscurities, each featuring top shelf musicians and vocalists.

Together, they faithfully delivered such ingeniously constructed and produced pieces as “Standing On Higher Ground,” “Don’t Answer Me,” “Psychobabble” and “Time,” reflecting the records with both reverence and another foot planted in present tense.

The epics increased as the headlining evening progressed, including “Breakdown/The Raven,” “Day After Day (The Show Must Go On),” “Don’t Let It Show,” “Luciferama” and “Prime Time,” seamlessly stitching together various periods of experimentation.

The Englishman also embraced on an inadvertent local connection, turning in the chilling “Sirius,” which was adapted by the Chicago Bulls as the soundtrack for player introductions, straight into the softer staple “Eye In The Sky.”

Alan ParsonsAlan Parsons Live Project resumed juggling the cerebral and commercial during the encore, from the weirdly wonderful “(The System Of) Dr. Tarr And Professor Fether” to the melodic gem “Games People Play” as the Genesee rose for the fearless leader and the latest aces he assembled.
