Broadway legend Patti LuPone’s “A Life In Notes” graces the elegant Lyric Opera Gala

Actress and vocal superstar Patti LuPone brought her show “A Life In Notes” as the highlight of the Lyric Opera Gala at Lyric Opera in Chicago. 

The black-tie gala, presented in partnership with the Lyric Women’s Board, included a reception and after-party in Lyric Opera’s Graham Room.

The singer, the recipient of Tony Awards, Olivier Awards and Grammy Awards, performed a nearly two-hour concert, showcasing an entertaining look at her life and career via song.

In between performing a personally selected set list, LuPone spoke about what the songs meant to her, where she was when she heard them and how the tunes influenced her life.

The show began with the Leon Russell hit “A Song For You” and proceeded with tunes such as “Come On-A My House,” “Summertime, Summertime” and “Ebb Tide.”

LuPone’s playlist proved a real mix of styles, featuring everything from Broadway favorites to pop tunes and songs from The Great American Songbook.

Highlighted songs offered by the singer included a heartfelt performance of “Alfie,” the pop tunes “Teen Angel” and “Those Were The Days,” plus an outstanding rendition of “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina,” from “Evita.”

Fans of LuPone will remember she won a Tony Award for her role as Eva Peron in “Evita” in 1980 in the original Broadway production.

Other tunes performed by LuPone included “In My Life,” “Forever Young,” “Town Without Pity,” “Some People,” “On Broadway” and “I Dreamed A Dream,” each adding to the elegant evening.
