The “Golden Hour” keeps on glowing for Kacey Musgraves, who ever since redefining the parameters of country, crossed over to pop and the dance floor while becoming a widespread cultural icon.

It turns out the Allstate Arena was still smitten for the “Star-Crossed” superstar, even with the latest lane change to more earthy folk tones on her sixth long-player, “Deeper Well,” highlighting her rich singer/songwriter roots.

Kacey MusgravesDespite the stripped down nature of the exceptional, deeply vulnerable material, Musgraves had no trouble translating it to such a massive room, especially since her surging popularity wouldn’t really allow her to play anywhere smaller at this point.

Alongside all the pageantry, set pieces, live band and special effects of any show this scope, the multiple Grammy Award winner literally levitated to the sweet glow of “Cardinal,” then resumed creatively flying during “Butterflies” and “Stay,” plus a little later, dove further into the emotional rollercoaster for “Happy & Sad,” “Lonely Weekend” and “Lonely Millionaire.”

Making her way to a secondary stage in the center of the venue ensured everyone got a closer view and the move came just in time for “Follow Your Arrow,” an increasingly appreciated anthem of individuality that transformed the diverse audience into a choir.

It was followed by “Family Is Family” and “The Architect,” before covering SZA’s R&B groove “Kill Bill,” joined by bluegrass-framed opening act Nickel Creek, who added extra harmonies and acoustics to her interpretive magic.

Upon returning to the primary platform, Musgraves took a “Slow Burn” though “Space Cowboy” and “Justified,” prior to pulling up at Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” and tipping her own cowboy hat towards the club come “High Horse.”

Kacey MusgravesThe current collection’s reflective title track and the endlessly optimistic “Rainbow” closed the encore-less evening, which nonetheless clocked in at 90 mesmerizing minutes and found the once-in-a-generation artist striking gold for every single second.
