Since regaining the rights to Creedence Clearwater Revival’s publishing after a half-century’s worth of legal battles, John Fogerty seemed to acquire a lot more bounce in his step, not that he was lacking previously.

In fact, at 81-years-old, the Rock & Roll and Songwriters Hall of Famer is as active as ever, re-recording the group’s greatest hits on the “Legacy” collection, remastering the solo “Centerfield (Hall Of Fame Edition)” and kicking off a national tour in support of it all, alongside fellow man from a major act (or three) Steve Winwood, at Tinley Park’s Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre.

Throughout Fogerty’s 90-headlining minutes, the singer/guitar slinger and a razor-sharp band, featuring sons Shane and Tyler on additional axes, spent the bulk in the 1960s and ’70s, occasionally touching on what came later.

In either instance, it was a monstrous mix of roots, country, blues, swamp and Southern rock, as evidenced during the opening streak of CCR standouts “Bad Moon Rising,” “Up Around The Bend,” “Green River,” “Born On The Bayou” and “Who’ll Stop The Rain,” the latter performed on the exact instrument used at Woodstock.

Personally speaking, Fogerty packed similarly potent flavors, from “Rock And Roll Girls” to “The Old Man Down The Road” and “Centerfield” on a baseball bat-shaped six-string while wearing a Chicago Cubs hat.

However, there was no surpassing the reactions to the home stretch of “Have You Ever Seen The Rain?,” “Down On The Corner,” “Fortunate Son” or the encore “Proud Mary” as they steamrolled through the pavilion, lawn and even those getting an early jump on the parking lot.

Shortly beforehand, multi-instrumentalist Steve Winwood, a Rock Hall of Famer in his own right, based an hour and change around the latest “Greatest Hits Live,” which meant Traffic jams “Glad,” “Forty Thousand Headmen” and “Dear Mr. Fantasy” interpreted by a jammy band and daughter Lilly on backing vocals.

There was also Blind Faith’s easygoing “Can’t Find My Way Home,” The Spencer Davis Group’s stomping “I’m A Man,” the mandolin ballad “Back In The High Life Again,” plus the organ-infused joy of “Higher Love” and “Gimme Some Lovin'” to mirror the mood of the main event.
