Allstate Arena can’t get the “Tension” of international pop princess Kylie Minogue out of its head

Australian singer/songwriter/actress Kylie Minogue doesn’t come to America all that often,
which is why the double Grammy Award-winner always fills places the size of the Allstate Arena in Rosemont or has two Madison Square Garden sell outs up next.

The “Princess Of Pop” hasn’t been to Chicagoland specifically since 2009, though at least she made up for the painful absence with a pair of red hot “Tension” projects and many other club milestones since the late 1980s.

Kylie MinogueMinogue may be 56, but she was absolutely ageless, descending from the ceiling on a swing to the throbbing beats of “Lights Camera Action,” then joining her live band and troupe of dancers on the standard level for “In You Eyes.”

Throughout no less than five acts in nearly two hours, the international icon turned the hockey hall into a dance floor that brought out the bulk of Boystown, thanks in part to “On A Night Like This,” “Better The Devil You Know” and a career-launching cover of Carole King’s “The Loco-Motion.”

Even so, fans got a chance to encounter her more intimate side on a secondary stage, including acoustic or a cappella bits of “The One,” “Where The Wild Roses Grow” and “Say Something,” prior to building back up to the bangers.

A medley of “Supernova / Real Groove / Magic / Where Does The DJ Go?” found the down to earth diva returning to the main stage where the feels kept coming courtesy of “Confide In Me,” “Slow,” “Timebomb” and “Edge Of Saturday Night.”

Minogue slayed the tour’s title track, catapulted the momentum with the contagious classic “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” and had nothing but pure euphoria flowing by the chill-inducing “All The Lovers.”

Kylie MinogueAn encore of the enormous “Padam Padam” tapped into her remarkable ability to retain relevance across multiple generations, while “Love At First Sight” tapped into precisely how the Allstate still felt to be in the presence of this globally-adored pop goddess.
