Take two improv stars off TV’s “Whose Line Is It Anyway?,” put them on a stage where they seek suggestions from a live audience, then completely throw away the script and that’s exactly how Colin Mochrie & Brad Sherwood’s brand new tour got named “Asking For Trouble.”

In fact, besides each date sharing a completely impromptu premise, the well sold stop at the landmark Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet was wildly unpredictable and totally hilarious.

Colin MochrieMochrie & Sherwood didn’t waste many moments on opening remarks, other than a brief explanation of the frequently funny format and assuring everyone there would be zero politics.

The first few volunteering fans were tasked with not only being puppeteers, despite having zero experience doing so, but providing an enjoyably outlandish plot line where the comics had to pick up a pair of dentures.

Up next was a couple called to be Siri narrators on a trip to Peoria for a funeral, though it immediately went off the rails in the best way possible, resulting in a misunderstanding surrounding a recipe, presumably talking dirty in Polish and weaving a wacky narrative regarding the fictional Lake Tom.

There were also skits centered around serenading an interview subject, making human sound effects and rhyming in the style of Dr. Seuss, all more or less requiring Mochrie & Sherwood to read the other’s mind, which outside of some small yet welcome snags, was actually quite amazing.

The guys even had a field day polling people about “Prison City” as they condensed topics, such as the birthplace of “The Blues Brothers,” taxes, bridges and a butt-pinching ghost, into a really wonky song.

Colin MochrieAfter almost two hours, split by an intermission, Mochrie & Sherwood always came across as quick-witted as they come, and considering no two crowds are ever exactly alike, the Rialto received a one-of-a-kind interaction on the way to whatever will happen when the sidesplitting pair step on stage again.
