LANY’s life-affirming pop is “A Beautiful Blur” to Indy’s Old National Centre, Salt Shed up next

“We’re like the biggest band you’ve never heard about,” LANY front man Paul Jason Klein once told Chicago Concert Reviews, but no matter where the indie pop/alternative rock act shows up on earth, those in the know fill up every single show.

Alongside fellow co-founder/drummer/percussionist Jake Clifford Goss and two additional backers, they did precisely that inside Indianapolis’ Egyptian Room At Old National Centre and will likely reach the capacity of The Salt Shed on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30.

LANYThroughout the ten years they’ve been together, half as many albums and a stream of EPs or singles have led to billions of streams and platinum certification, which meant everyone pretty much knew every single word, despite LANY never technically notching a traditional hit.

Nonetheless, the choruses were colossal and the arrangements instantly contagious, from the opening monster ballad “You!” to the bubbly bounce of “Ex I Never Had” and the synth-saturated “Up To Me.”

Though each of those are firmly established in the LANY cannon, the near two-hour night also provided an opportunity to get thoroughly acquainted with its latest full-length project, “A Beautiful Blur.”

Bangers such as “No” and “(Saturday Night) 3:22 A.M.” could stand proudly next to the prior punch of “I Don’t Wanna Love You Anymore” or “Dancing In The Kitchen,” while the same could be said about the stripped down likes of “‘Cause You Have To” matching the might of say “Malibu Nights.”

LANYThe guys even invited a few lucky fans to the stage on multiple occasions, surprised with “When You’re Drunk,” cleverly combined “Super Far/Mean It” and went deep to discover the sunny forecast of “Pink Skies.”

By “ILYSB,” the Old National Centre was indeed proclaiming “I love you so bad,” a feeling that was finalized when Klein bravely jumped in the crowd come the guitar-charged “XXL” and made many wonder why the perpetually life-affirming LANY isn’t more massive, though such a shift could finally be coming right around the corner.
