Few acts defined the soulful rock side of late 1960s into the ‘70s to the degree of Three Dog Night, while even less can boast the longevity of lasting well over 50 years.

Though the members have changed and their recording pace simmered significantly by the early 1980s, co-founding vocalist Danny Hutton and company have always been road warriors, whose seasoned abilities were evident when they visited The Venue At Horseshoe Casino.

Three Dog NightEven at 80-years-old, the Vocal Group Hall of Famer is leading and standing strong, alongside his recently recruited bass playing son Timothy Hutton, longtime guitarist Paul Kingery, fellow veteran drummer Pat Bautz, plus the latter day additions of singer David Morgan and keyboardist Howard Laravea.

Together, they tore through “The Family Of A Man,” “Black And White,” “Never Been To Spain” and “Shambala” for an explosive opening that set the tone for 90 no-nonsense minutes.

Three Dog Night continued mining through its extensive catalogue for “Easy To Be Hard,” “One,” “Mama Told Me Not To Come,” “Celebrate” and “Eli’s Coming,” all of which opened up an authentic portal to the Woodstock generation, but could still hold up today.

It wasn’t exclusively nostalgic either thanks to the basically a cappella ballad, “Prayer Of The Children,” which not only boasted a moving message, but came with the surprising announcement that a new album, “The Road Ahead,” is on the way.

Three Dog NightHowever, there was no better way to wrap it all up than the giant “Joy To the World” as everyone who populated the acoustically pure Venue loudly echoed the unforgettable lines, “Jeremiah was a bullfrog, was a good friend of mine,” and kept the applause going long after the last iconic note of this true American treasure.
