Pop singer/songwriter Conan Gray sails towards stratosphere on near capacity Northerly Island

A mere six months after selling out the sizeable Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom, Conan Gray moved almost double as many tickets when he returned for the Huntington Bank Pavilion At Northerly Island date of the entirely new “Superache” Tour.

Although he clinched Coachella in between, this was his largest solo show to date, though after about 75 minutes featuring mounds of material from that project and the prior “Kid Krow,” it was obvious the pop singer/songwriter will soon be leaping up yet another level.

Conan GrayThe fashionable Gray strutted out at the top of staircase to the insanely contagious beats of “Disaster,” while the audience of mostly girls screamed along and a giant heart from the current album’s artwork flickered in the background.

For a guy who’s technically never had a huge American hit by traditional radio standards, it was unreal how literally every track elicited a similar reaction, which spoke to his rise of posting bedroom-made music online that’s rapidly making its way to the masses.

In fact, practically every track could’ve been a smash, including “Wish You Were Sober” and “People Watching,” during which Gray oozed charisma and showed off notable songwriting chops that already had Elton John, Taylor Swift and bestie Olivia Rodrigo singing his praises.

His talents as a troubadour continued throughout a solo acoustic rendition of “The Story,” and a little later, the fully amplified “Family Line,” accompanied by a personal revelation of having endured a tumultuous upbringing, but ultimately, rising above the trauma.

Conan GrayGray is regularly amongst the most relatable artists of Gen-Z, who also wasn’t afraid to spill his guts in the unrequited love triangle of “Heather,” but could just as easily wink his way through playfully stalking someone with the danceable “Maniac.”

However, an encore of the power ballad “Memories” surpassed them all, which besides surely making Sir Elton proud, is already shaping up to be a career cornerstone for his legion of listeners who hung on every word.
