Hard rockers Bush renew relevance and teach Hollywood Casino Amp “The Art Of Survival”

The name of Bush’s upcoming, resilience-themed album, “The Art Of Survival,” could also double as a descriptor for the alternative rockers’ ability to withstand shifting trends and still come out on top.

Faithful will remember how humongous the British band was throughout the grunge period and beyond, though after selling over 20 million records and constantly ruling radio from 1994’s “Sixteen Stone” through 2001’s “Golden State,” Gavin Rossdale and the guys called it a day for exactly a decade.

BushBut ever since roaring back with 2011’s “The Sea Of Memories,” the group’s been on a roll, recording at an even more prolific pace than the first go around and reclaiming its place as one of today’s most vital acts with over a billion streams as well.

Even though Bush started while it was still daylight, the seats were quite full at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre for a preview of what’s to come, plus a substantial dive into 2020’s pandemic-restricted “The Kingdom.”

All of the above found the front man in fiery form with his newer backers driving home the aggressive beats as firmly as any prior line-up, while the flashbacks “Machinehead” and “Everything Zen” came across fairly close to the original recordings.

Rossdale really had a chance to showcase his charisma during “Flowers On A Grave” when he leapt into the pavilion and ran all the way out to the lawn in a display of textbook rock stardom that had everyone going crazy and following him with their phones.

BushHe returned to the strobe lit stage for a communal rendition of “Happy Birthday” to 14-year-old son Zuma, complete with a candlelit cake, before getting back to work with the mighty “More Than Machines” and a solo electric rendition of the chilling “Glycerine.”

The intensity returned for the finale, “Comedown,” as fans chanted along to each hypnotic chorus and Bush all but erased the decades since it debuted with a renewed relevance so few from that flannel-wearing era have achieved.
