Regina Spektor cues up for “Soundstage” special taped right here in Chicago
All eyes in the indie pop world have turned back towards Regina Spektor, who after a four year absence from the recording studio, finally returned on September 30 with “Remember Us To Life” (Sire/Warner Bros Records). Though the classically-inspired singer/songwriter/piano player is making various promotional rounds and will hopefully embark upon a full-fledged tour, one of her most prominent visits thus far was to WTTW’s Grainger Studio in Chicago for a taping of PBS’ “Soundstage.”
“It’s a privilege to add Regina Spektor to the roster of music greats whose performances are synonymous with this long-running and successful series.”
Highlights from the performance are slated to debut on Thursday, October 6, which include an absolutely ethereal version of her current single “Bleeding Heart,” accompanied by a glorious string section. In additional to unveiling current tunes, Spektor also promises a sampling from previous critically-lauded albums that have earned her comparisons to Tori Amos, Fiona Apple and St. Vincent.
“I deeply love PBS and was super glad to play the legendary ‘Soundstage’ in Chicago,” said Spektor, who also wrote and performed the Grammy-nominated theme song for the Netflix series “Orange Is The New Black.” “What an amazing way to share my new music with all the other devoted PBS watchers around the country!”
On and off since the 1970s, the program sure has lived up that status, spanning the diverse likes of Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Tom Petty and Sheryl Crow (to name but a few). And this fall into 2017 is shaping up to be just as fruitful thanks to Spektor, plus separate shows featuring Bad Company, Kenny Loggins (with several guests), Blondie and many others.
“It was truly an honor to work with such a uniquely talented artist,” added Joe Thomas, Executive Producer and Director of “Soundstage.” “It’s a privilege to add Regina Spektor to the roster of music greats whose performances are synonymous with this long-running and successful series.”
Regina Spektor appears on “Soundstage” on WTTW11 on Thursday, October 6 at 8:00 pm. For additional details and other airdates, visit ReginaSpektor.com and WTTW.com/Soundstage.
